Congratulations Canter Algebra Students On A Great Quiz!

On Tuesday, September 14th, the Canter Algebra students took their first quiz, which covered operations with mixed numbers and order of operations.  One student earned a hat for a 100%. His name was Matthew R.  Congratulations!

Students that received higher than an 80% were Regan A, Sebastian A, Michael A, Ananda B, Otis B, Nikolas B, Nathan K, Tumaini S, and Jamoele T.

Nice job, but next time get a hat!

Algebra students, it is extremely important to keep up and earn high marks early while we are laying the foudation for the difficult work to come.  It is an honer to be in Algebra, but you are taking a high school level course and must work accordingly.

Thanks,

Mr. Winsor

Congratulations Canter Math Students On A Great Quiz!

On Tuesday, September 14th, Canter Math Students took their first quiz, which covered Proportions and Unit Rates.  The students had to display their number sense and critical thinking skills by solving a variety of word problems.  The following students earned a hat by scoring a 100% or better on the test: Lisa D, Nautica H, Dashayn T, Makaveli W, Joshua C, Richard D, Shane E, Omphile F, Asante H, Dillon H, Courtney M, Marquis R, Horace S, Robert S, Micah E, Ronnald J, Lamar J, Brandon K, Jocelyn M, Mario S, Kaylah S, Amethyst T, Shem W, Ama M, and Robert U.  Congratulations to all of you!  Keep up the good work!

Next, we will be reviewing linear relationships and exploring slope.  Some of this was covered last year in 7th grade, but we need to revisit it before starting our first Connected Mathematics book Thinking With Mathematical Models. This rigorous book provides an introduction to functions and modeling.  Students will learn to find the equation of a line, explore inverse functions, and explore inequalties.  All of these concepts are directly related to success in high school algebra.  Students should be organizing their work in a binder.  Most of the assessments will be open note.

Keep up the great work Canter Students!
